The Rescue Team is headed by the Rescue Division Captain and consists of 3 levels of trained personnel - Rescue Operators, Rescue Assistant and Rescue Apprentices. Operators are senior-level technicians with extensive training and experience in vehicle and technical rescue support. They are led in part by a Master Operator who oversees training and general operations. Assistants are qualified rescue technicians who operate EMS-Rescue 2 and it's tools under the supervision of an Operators. Apprentices are student team members who are undergoing training to qualify as team members.
All Rescue Team personnel are experienced EMT-Basics at minimum, with additional training certificates in Incident Command, HazMat Awareness and Operations, CBRNE Awareness and Operations, Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support, and Basic and Advanced Vehicle Extrication. Additional training for some members includes SCBA qualification, HazMat Technician, confined space awareness and support, technical rope resuce, and SAR techniques. |
EMS-Rescue 2 is a 16' long body complete medium duty rescue on a Ford F-650 chassis. It carries a cadre of vehicle rescue equipment including a full set of Hurst Hydraulic Tools (aka "The Jaws of Life®"), hi-pressure rescue air bags, hi-lift railroad jacks, stokes rescue basket with rope gear, pnuematic tools and saws, and a 21kW PTO electric generator with 11,000 W of external lighting. It also carries the Special Services Team Mass Casulty Equipment, although this will be relocated to a new Special Services Response Unit in the near future.
