Gas Explosion on Rt. 27 Bring Out Rehab Team

lawyer’s office on Route 27 on Monday morning.
EDISON – A
gas leak led to an explosion that destroyed a
lawyer’s office on Route 27 on Monday morning.
Utility crews were evacuating the area when the explosion occurred shortly after 4:30 a.m. According to police, a motorist alerted authorities to a crack in the roadway and the presence of a strong gas odor.
The office, a converted home, was completely destroyed and two adjacent homes were damaged. According to authorities, no injuries were reported.
The Edison EMS - Squad 2 Special Teams And Resources Rehab Team was on scene providing medical surveillance and care to firefighters and utility workers who were working at the scene. The Team operated from 5:00 am until 10:05 am, rehabbing a number of emergency personnel as well as preparing a Mass Care contingency plan due to some escalating hazards on scene during operations.
All personnel were appropriately checked out and demobilized without incident. Also operating on scene were Edison FD, Edison PD, Edison Twp. OEM, Middlesex Co. OEM, and Edison EMS - Squads 1 and 3.
