Squad 2 dedicated it’s new Emergency Services Unit,
known as “ESU-2”, today to the residents of Edison
Township at a ceremony held in front of the Edison
Municipal Complex. Mayor Choi, the Edison Township
Council, and officials from the Edison Twp. Police
and Fire Departments were in attendance.
The unit is designed to support the Special Teams and Resources (STAR) group from the squad, which comprises highly trained EMS responders in the areas of disaster response, mass injury care, responder rehabilitation, incident planning and hazardous emergency support. It will carry specialized equipment to treat large numbers of victims at various transportation, terrorist and natural disasters, along with communications equipment, planning tools and personal protective equipment.
Four years in the making, the new unit was created from a refurbished utility truck. Funding was provided by the James G. Geib Memorial Fund, a former squad member in whose memory the unit is dedicated.
